English (including Phonics, handwriting and reading)

Phonics - Read Write Inc.

This scheme helps to break down the different sounds to make it easier for the children to have a good understanding of the sounds so that we can read and then write these accurately. This will help with both reading and writing.

You will receive a text message each half term letting you know which phonic group your child is in. You will then be emailed weekly, a list of links for the sounds your child has learnt that week, for you to watch and consolidate at home.

We are starting to use pre-cursive writing and trying to apply this to our writing in all subjects.

Here is a useful website that we use to help with the joins.

We encourage children to read at least three times a week. Please record it in the planner as the children are rewarded with team points.

Book change will be dependent on their phonic groups so please make sure that reading books come to school every day.

Shared reading books

Shared reading books are given out for children to enjoy reading with their family. We don't expect the children to be able to read the books themselves, but to simply enjoy being read to by an adult or an older sibling.
