Phonics - Read Write Inc. (RWI)

We are continuing with our Read, Write Inc. scheme this year. This scheme helps to break down the different sounds to make it easier for the children to have a good understanding of the sounds so that we can read and then write these accurately. This will help with both reading and writing.

You will receive a text message each half term letting you know which phonic group your child is in. You will then be emailed weekly, a list of links for the sounds your child has learnt that week, for you to watch and consolidate at home.

Take a look at what we will be learning in our English lessons. This half term we will be exploring the features of character descriptions and then following an experience, plan, do and review approach to support them with writing their own.

Reading

We encourage children to read at least three times a week. Please record it in the planner as the children are rewarded with team points.

Book change will be dependent on their phonic groups so please make sure that reading books come to school every day.

Year 1 would like to introduce you to 'Fred's Reading Challenge!'

Fred the Frog is really excited to be supporting the children with their reading at home. Each week, children will be entered into a weekly competition of Reader of the Week! Whoever wins will get a special prize to take home for the weekend. Whoever reads the most over the term will be entered into a draw for Reader of the Term!

The children are really excited to start their reading adventures with Fred.

Shared reading books

Shared reading books are given out for children to enjoy reading with their family. We don't expect the children to be able to read the books themselves, but to simply enjoy being read to by an adult or an older sibling.

The children will choose a new book every Friday and the old books will be collected back in again.
