HOMEWORK GUIDELINES FOR YEAR 6

(approximate guide time of 4 hours weekly)

The quantity of homework in Upper Key Stage Two builds on what has been set in Lower Key Stage Two and begins to prepare the children for their transition to high school.

Day due

Reading: Pupils need regular reading sessions.

Encourage your child to: decode unfamiliar words themselves; use expression and  ask them questions about their reading.

Parents are encouraged to comment in the child’s reading record book, shared by all adults involved. It is also useful to read books to your children - modelling expression and asking questions about the book.

Your child may also be given reading comprehension questions – these are most important and they help them with inference and deduction – an area of reading that a lot of KS2 children can struggle.
