Introduce the virtues CURIOUS and ACTIVE for this half term. Give the meaning of each.
Curious - eager to know or learn something.
Active - pursuing an occupation or activity at a particular place or in a particular way.
Curious about everything and active in their engagement with the world, changing what they can for the better.
Plan a collective worship with the children using the planning board and picture cards. Focus on ACTIVE - The call of the Disciples. Jesus was active in calling His disciples to follow Him and the disciples were active in their willingness to follow Him.
Guided Reading - The most heroic hero
Print out the following document, read the passage together and discuss the questions. Children to complete the questions on the sheet and add to Guided Reading books.

Remind the children of the precursive handwriting style, c and o from last week, using the same movement children will learn a and g. Ensure that they sit the letter on the correct line and keep the size and shape the same. They worked very hard on this last week - I'm sure they will impress you this week!

The pattern is /n/ spelt 'kn' and 'gn'.

GREETINGS FROM MRS RANKIN
Story Time with Mrs Rankin - Thursday 23rd April
Story Time with Mrs Rankin - Friday 24th April
Hello everyone, I hope you are all well and you have had a fantastic Easter Holiday with your families. I am looking forward to hearing about your holiday and what you have been up to. I am also excited about getting back to home learning and receiving emails showing the work that you have completed. Don't forget there are activities set on activelearn for you to complete - all new tasks!!! Purplemash also has a list of things on the '2do' list and I can see how you get on.
I am aware that lots of you have read the reading books that you were given before school closed so I have set up a class login for you to access e-books online.
Search for oxford owl (www.oxfordowl.co.uk) and click on my class login-
Class name - bmtsch
Password - bmt20
Click on my bookshelf. In that section you can select age range, series and themes.
If you find books are too easy for your child to read then try the next age up.
Or if you find books are too tricky then try the next age down.
If your child would like to have a go at their up-the-hill handwriting (precursive) below you will find some useful videos showing them how to correctly form some of the letters. Every letter starts on the line and goes up, hence 'up-the-hill.' The children have done some of this style already at school. This particular style is developed in preparation for joining which is normally learnt in Year 2.
I have also added some handwriting sheets that you can download too. Please find them in the week 3 resources (at the bottom of the page). Other activities that will support correct formation of precursive handwriting include:
- making the letters with playdough
- chalking the letters
- rainbow writing (using different colours)
- writing the letters in sand/shaving foam/glitter/slime
Extra Maths Sheets - Addition and Subtraction
Extra Spelling Sheets - Phase 5
JUST A REMINDER THAT FRIDAY 3RD APRIL IS AN INSET DAY - YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO COMPLETE ANY HOME LEARNING!
Enjoy the time with your family, do some baking and crafts but most importantly eat some Easter eggs.
MY FABULOUS CLASS ONE
I just wanted to say a massive well done to all of you and your parents, for adapting to home learning so well. I know it's probably not been the easiest of weeks but I'm so proud of you all. Your work has been great and I've enjoyed seeing what you've all been getting up to as well. Hopefully it won't be long before we're all back in the classroom continuing our learning together.
Don't forget to check in once with me during the week to let me know how you are getting on and to send me work that you have done - via the class email (see below).
Home Learning for Year 1
Each week you will have a series of lessons that you can access for home learning.
English and Maths should be followed in order but you can change the order of the PE and Foundation lessons as they suit you.
The weekly overview is below and resources can be found in the weekly resource section.
Over the next few days, we shall be providing you with a class email. If you have any questions about the work, you can reach us here.
Have fun learning from home and above all, stay safe!
The weekly overview is what we would like you to complete. Don't forget to have a look on activelearn and for tasks that have been allocated for you and purplemash for your 2Dos. These tasks are extra for you to have a go and explore!
Remember to read as much as you can. It can be your school book, a book from home or listening to a story being read by a family member or even a famous author online.
David Walliams - daily read 11.00am-11.20am
POBBLE - DISCUSSION TASK
English task - Pobble!
A great way to get talking about a picture:
- share the photo and discuss what you see
- read the story starter
- have a go at the question time, sentence challenge, sick sentences or perfect picture (some are trickier than others so only complete what you feel is achievable)
You pick what you want to do, do as little or as much as you like.
The great thing is there is a new one everyday!
Don't forget to either photograph/save as a file and email your work to the class email address. Looking forward to seeing all your hard work.
